City of Jackson Announces New EV Charging Stations Across the City - Darkhorse Press

The City of Jackson announced that they have installed new EV charging stations across the city. There are now 10 new Electric Vehicle charging stations across the Capital City.

In a press event held near the “Welcome to Jackson” mural on East Pearl Street, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba was joined by Ward 4 Councilman Brian Grizzell, Planning and Development Director Jhai Keeton, and representatives from Entergy, Adopt a Charger, and Lavalle Electric to officially unveil the city’s latest innovation in transportation infrastructure.

“We’re proud to introduce these modern EV charging stations—one of the first of their kind in our city and a symbol of our dedication to building a cleaner, more connected future,” said Mayor Lumumba. “It’s more than infrastructure. It’s an investment in our people, our environment, and our economy.”

The first chargers have been installed at Union Station, Thalia Mara Hall, and the Hood Building parking lot on State Street. Additional chargers are available at Hinds Community College and the Mississippi Children’s Museum, with more stations under review.

Planning Director Keeton emphasized the broader significance of the initiative:

“By installing these EV chargers, we’re making a clear statement: Jackson is not standing still. We are moving forward—toward clean energy, modern transportation, and a downtown that works for the future.”

The chargers were installed through a partnership supported by Entergy’s Environmental Initiatives Fund, Adopt a Charger, and Lavalle Electric, with Tesla donating Universal Connectors. The equipment is compatible with all plug-in vehicles, including both North American Charging Standard and J-1772 connectors.

For now, the stations are free to use, offering residents and visitors accessible charging while encouraging eco-friendly transportation. The city hopes this project will stimulate economic development and make Jackson a more attractive destination for both business and travel.
